Imagery – Symbolism

IMAGERY

Just as the brand name itself has multiple deep seeded meanings – so do the characters and symbols associated with our collection. Many images and figures that are incorporated into this brand are renditions of Japanese Irezumi tattoo style; characters featured in Noh Theater, and of course, Japanese Buddhist deities.

Understand that everything your eyes pass over when dealing with Room101, has far more meaning than could possibly be absorbed in one quick glance. Although the surface value of our work can be impressive in and of itself, look beyond the aesthetics. Do your homework if you so choose.

Although, the meanings behind some of what you see will be kept private, the majority is there for you. Just know, that once you own a piece of Room101, you are now part of something much larger – you are now part of a worldwide Conspiracy.

Symbolism

THE FU – FU is a protector and an all around icon of the Room101 brand. The FU  is a descendant of the Okinawa Shisa (or Shishi dog) – No nonsense characters that had but one mission in life – to protect ancient temples from evil. They have the power to not only ward off evil spirits, but to kill them as well. Rumor has it, in his downtime; FU enjoys long walks on the beach accompanied by stiff cognac and fine cigars.

SENJYA FUDA – Japanese family crest. The traditional stickers or scraps of paper posted on the gates of shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan. The stickers bear the name of the worshipper and or family and are placed at the gates of these shrines to bring good fortune – the Room101 tax stamp is our twist on the traditional Senjya Fuda design.

JYA – JYA is a character featured in Japanese Noh Theater. In our world JYA is the antagonist – the yang to our FU’s yin, if you will. Don’t get JYA confused with the far more recognizable Hannya mask – he is absolutely no Hannya.
